Doctors & Staff
Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Family Eye Care Associates – St. Clair Shores the leading provider of vision care products and services in St. Clair Shores.
Dr. William Lakin, OD
Dr. Lakin is a graduate of Illinois College of Optometry. He did his undergraduate work at Michigan State University. Upon returning to Michigan he opened a second office for Family Eye Care Associates (formerly Optometry, P.C.) in Clinton Township. His primary responsibility was development of the office and for patient care of new residents in the growing community. The office was relocated to its current location at 19 Mile and Garfield in 1993. When the original optometrists retired over a 10-year span, Dr. Lakin became more involved with patient care in both offices as well as assuming the administrative responsibilities of the practice. To replace the former associates, Dr. Lakin actively sought new doctors that could bring additional expertise in Low Vision Care, Specialty Contact Lens Care and Pediatric Eye Care to both the Clinton Township and St. Clair Shores locations.
Dr. Lakin has been actively involved in the Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores, and Clinton Township communities. He has served as a board member and president of the Eastpointe Chamber of Commerce. Family Eye Care Associates was recognized as Eastpointe Business of the Year in 2003 by the chamber. Dr. Lakin is an active member of the Clinton Township Kiwanis club. He is a frequent guest at many county elementary schools giving talks to young children on the eye and assisting with eye dissections as well as meeting with high school students seeking career information on the field of optometry.
On a professional level Dr. Lakin has served on the board of directors of the Michigan Optometric Association and as its president in 1995-1996. In 1996 he was recognized as Optometrist of the Year by the Michigan Optometric Association. He continues to be actively involved on the Association’s Legislative Committee. Dr. Lakin has also assisted the American Optometric Association on legislative issues and has served as a board member for VISION USA, a national non-profit charity that assists limited income families without insurance in receiving eye care. He currently serves on the State Board of Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. Lakin enjoys seeing patients of all ages and often finds that a child coming in for his or her first eye examination may be the grandchild of a patient he has recently seen for follow-up care after cataract surgery.
